Restaunax is an innovative restaurant management platform that empowers restaurant owners to manage their menus, process orders, handle delivery and pickup options, and engage with customers. Our comprehensive solution includes payment processing, subscription plans, analytics dashboards, and marketing tools designed specifically for the restaurant industry. We have ambitious plans to integrate AI capabilities to enhance our platform's intelligence and automate critical restaurant operations.
Role Summary
We're seeking a part-time Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to join our founding team. This is an equity-based position offering approximately 10% ownership in exchange for 4-10 hours of commitment per week. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership, strategic direction, and hands-on expertise to help scale our restaurant management platform. Note: This is a highly technical, hands-on role that requires significant coding contributions in addition to leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for our restaurant management platform
- Guide architecture decisions and technology choices to ensure scalability and security
- Actively contribute to codebase with hands-on development using our technology stack
- Review and improve code quality, infrastructure, and development processes
- Establish technical standards and best practices
- Lead our AI integration strategy and implementation roadmap
- Assist with critical technical challenges and complex problem-solving
- Participate in key technical decisions around product features and roadmap
- Help build and mentor our development team as we grow
Required Technical Experience
- Proven experience with our technology stack:
- Node.js and Express.js backend development
- PostgreSQL database and Prisma ORM
- Advanced React frontend development
- React Native experience is highly recommended as we plan to expand to mobile
- RESTful API design and implementation
- Stripe payment integration
- JWT authentication and OAuth implementation
- Socket.io for real-time functionality
- AWS services (particularly S3 for file storage)
- Strong coding skills and ability to contribute directly to codebase across frontend and backend
- Experience with production deployment, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices
- Strong understanding of application security best practices, especially for payment processing
- Experience scaling web applications to handle growing user base
- Knowledge of AI/ML technologies, frameworks, and integration patterns is highly desirable
- Familiarity with LLM integration, natural language processing, and predictive analytics would be advantageous

Startup Experience
- Previous experience in a founding or early-stage technical role at a startup
- Understanding of lean startup methodologies and ability to prioritize technical work for maximum impact
- Experience taking products from concept to market
- Ability to navigate technical debt vs. speed tradeoffs in a startup environment
- History of successful product launches or pivots
Compensation & Commitment
- Equity: Approximately 10% ownership stake in the company
- Time Commitment: 4-10 hours per week

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be passionate about restaurant technology, have a proven track record of technical leadership, and be excited about the opportunity to build something meaningful with equity-based compensation. Unlike typical CTO roles, this position requires significant hands-on coding with our technology stack. You should be comfortable both providing guidance remotely and directly implementing solutions, responding to critical issues as they arise, and contributing strategically to a growing platform.
Strong expertise in both React web development and React Native mobile development will be highly valued as we plan to expand our platform to include mobile applications. Additionally, we're looking for someone with vision and interest in AI applications for the restaurant industry, as we plan to implement features such as:
- Intelligent demand forecasting and inventory management
- Personalized menu recommendations for customers
- Automated customer support via conversational AI
- Smart pricing optimization based on demand patterns
- Predictive analytics for business performance
- Kitchen operations optimization and food waste reduction
Experience with these technologies or a strong interest in developing AI solutions for the restaurant industry will be particularly valuable.
